Apple car navigation system GPS
Focused on safety, it prevents the driver to use the GPS when the car is moving.
The Apple iPhone can, since its last update, finally be used as a real GPS but it does not say that this is the only equipment of the Apple brand that we can soon use driving. Apple has indeed filed a patent for a complete integrated navigation system on the dashboard or related to a mobile device. This one focuses on safety, its use should not divert the driver's eyes from the road.
Because whether GPS is with touch screen or manipulated by a knob, the navigation systems offered by most manufacturers require them to turn away, even slightly, to be used. Here, Apple wants to actually prevent the driver to use the GPS if the vehicle is moving. Sensors on the wheels, steering wheel or the engine will define if so, which will effectively block the touch screen.
2 people to operate the GPS apple navigation system
Only the passenger, if present, may use the apple navigation system. If the sensors do not detect its presence, the driver will only use voice commands to stop. The touch screen may also not respond if it determines that the angle of the finger support comes from the driver's side and not the passenger.
But Apple wants to go further with, why not, a biometric sensor that recognizes the finger pressing the screen. If it is a registered finger to the driver, no response from the GPS. If registered for the passenger, then it would work. The driver recognition can also pass through the detection of the phone via Bluetooth.
Finally, the patent mentions Apple's Wi-Fi and Edge for the apple navigation system can receive pre-recorded data on an iPhone. For example, an itinerary prepared on the computer in advance, like what Toyota has with its new Lexus 250h HS .
